International Nurses Day: Celebrating innovations in healthcare

On May 12 each year, International Nurses Day is an opportunity to reflect on the dedication and incredible range of innovative work that nurses do every single day. This year, the International Council of Nurses announced a new theme: ‘Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health’.

We spoke to Thornbury Nurse, Sonia Forde-White RN BSN MA, about the changes and innovations she has witnessed throughout her career thanks to investments into the nursing profession and healthcare system.

Sonia, Thornbury Nurse: “The gravity of nursing has been transformed immeasurably”

“My name is Sonia Forde, and I have been a Registered Nurse for approximately 35 years. The principal and unsurpassed change that has transpired in the arena of healthcare is the introduction of electronic health records and tele-health. This is significant as it has reduced medical errors immensely and prohibited many sentinel events from taking place. The introduction of nursing research and the introduction of evidence-based practice in the workforce has also been a welcome change in nursing that benefits the healthcare network.”

Thank you to Sonia and all our Thornbury nurses for supporting hospitals and healthcare facilities across the U.S. today and every day. You are amazing ❤️
